Magician Wows Parents and Kids Alike Magician Jay Mattioli, once a contestant on NBC's America's
Got Talent, stunned and entertained a full house at Eagle Cove School
in Pasadena
By Christian Freymeyer March 5, 2011
Before the show, the chatter of children was abundant inside the
Eagle Cove School auditorium. But after the lights went down, the
excitement didn't wane. Eagle Cove School, located in Pasadena,
hosted magician Jay Mattioli, who performed an electrifying event
in front of more than 200 people. While his accolades speak for
themselves. M attioli has been crowned as a "Champion of Magic"
by the International Brotherhood of Magic and has appeared on NBC's
"America's Got Talent", his show is what really seemed
to sell the audience. The magician, who is from Manassas, Va., wowed
the crowd with a combination of magic, comedy, and a little hip-hop.
Using an array of props, from doves to an oversized Duracell battery,
Mattioli kept the audience energized throughout the performance.
The school was hosting the event as part of a general fundraiser
for special projects and school improvements, according to Carl
Treff, President of the Parent's Association at Eagle Cove. Mattioli's
performance started out big, with his opening act consisting of
making four doves appear out of seemingly thin air. Part of the
magician's appeal is his blend of dancing and comedy. Throughout
most of the show, dance and hip-hop music played throughout the
room, leaving the event feeling more like a party than anything
else.
But kids didn't just watch either. Mattioli had help from two "assistants"
he chose from the crowd. Both left the stage mystified with how
the tricks were done. As a bonus, students got to see a special
show earlier in the day during their Friday assembly, said Treff.
"Usually we have a Friday assembly, and he performed there
too," said Treff. "The kids just loved it, it was great."
But even two shows didn't seem to be enough for the children, as
a loud groaning came from the audience when Mattioli said he was
moving to his last trick.
Dear Jay,
"...There are not enough accolades we can send your way for the "above the call of duty" kind of delightful entertainment you gave us. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but to include illusions, a beautifully done levitation, good sense of humor, dance including a terrific dance partner...To say we were impressed would be an understatement. I would HIGHLY recommend you to anyone looking for awesome magical entertainment."
Sincerely,
-Dr. Jep Hostetler, Executive Director, Columbus MAGI-FEST
